Carrie Chapman Catt was an American women's suffrage leader who campaigned for the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which gave American women the right to vote in 1920. The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), under the leadership of Carrie Chapman Catt, undertook campaigns to enfranchise women in individual states, going state-by-state to try and gain women's rights.
