The effect that the late introduction of Romeo has is that he has been built up by Shakespeare in the early parts of the scene as being miserable and not a confident man. Once Romeo is finally introduced he is presented with a sense of confidence and arrogance. This is to give the sense that Romeo may be misunderstood by others.
