A historian is a person who studies and writes about the people and events of the past. Historians find out how people lived, what hap- pened to them, and what happened around them. They look for the reasons behind events. They also study the effects of events.
Historians study the past by gathering dates from archives, books, artifacts and documents, according to the United States Department of Labor. They use this data to analyze and develop an interpretation of history.
