He did not want to get involved with the North Atlantic Treaty. A conservative position that many have criticized. However, Senator Taft was more interested in the protection and preservation of his own country. Right after the Vietnam war, his foreign policy was taken seriously. He was more concerned about his nation's defense than to get involved with wars.
