The theory that describes the way separate images viewed at regular intervals create the appearance of continuous motion is called theory of persistence of vision. According to this theory the human eye retains all images for a fraction of a second. On this principle the animation works. The viewer interprets a sequence of still images that are in enough quick succession as a continuous moving image
