Find the prime factors of each number
27= 3 x 3 x 3
36= 2 x 2 x 3 x 3
---------------------
Now identify the common factors and determine GCF
27= [3 x 3] x 3
36= 2 x 2 x [3 x 3]
--------------------
Therefore
GCF= 3 x 3 = 9
